Art Matters Instructors
All of our instructors have Pennsylvania child certification clearances.
Kerry Pease Coble - Owner & Director
Kerry Pease-Coble always said that she went into the family business. The daughter of two painters who served as college art instructors and administrators, Kerry chose art over international law and started her education at Maryland Institute, School of Art (MICA) in Baltimore. She received her BFA from Rhode Island School of Design followed by a prestigious artist residency at The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA.
After living in San Francisco for 6 years, she returned east, where she gave birth to her son Jasper, the impetus for starting Art Matters Studio. Jasper came home from school one day and reported that his teacher said: "Your tree has too many branches." Kerry realized that Jasper was not being given the sort of art education she had: drawing on the studio floor while her parents painted, always encouraged to make whatever kind of art she wanted.
Art Matters Studio was created to fill a gap in arts education programs which have witnessed severe funding cutbacks in recent years. The studio provides an oasis for children and their parents who value arts education for their children. Since its founding, programming has blossomed with a wide selection of daytime, after school, night time and weekend programs offered for children and adults.
Kerry offers private lessons in acrylic painting, drawing, and mixed media.
Suzanne Charles - Instructor
Suzanne Charles has been drawing as long as she can remember. After graduating from Elizabethtown College with a degree in Elementary Education, she taught 5th grade in Souderton, Pennsylvania. She then married and moved to Lancaster County. During her years raising four children, Suzanne managed to squeeze in watercolor lessons, studying under many local artists, and, after 28 years, water colors remains her favorite medium.
Suzanne is a member of the Lancaster County Art Association and continues to show and sell much of her work. When not painting, Suzanne loves to garden, read, and spend time with her precious grandchildren. Suzanne sees art as a "voice" that we are given to express ourselves when words are not enough. It's a gift that, when used, brings joy to ourselves and to others. Suzanne offers private watercolor lessons.
Cooper Millholland - InstructorCooper Millholland is an art, design, and coffee enthusiast. She started drawing at the peak of the Pokemon phenomenon, drawing Pikachu over and over again (and still does). Since those days, her love for creating persisted. In the spring of 2013, Cooper received her BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA, with a focus on painting and printmaking. During her four years at VCU, Cooper delved into conceptual art, created meditative drawings with repetitive mark making. She also honed her skills in printmaking, with a special interest in Lithography. Cooper transplanted to Lancaster in the fall of 2013, and immersed herself into the art scene; either by showing work in local galleries, or creating graphic design work for local businesses. In her spare time, Cooper loves exploring downtown, drinking coffee, drawing plants, embroidering, and talking on the phone with her mom. Cooper is available for private lessons in drawing, art foundations, hand and machine sewing, and printmaking.
Denise Wang - Instructor
Denise Wang graduated from Kutztown University as a Fine Arts Major with a concentration in 3D Animation. She is also an accomplished painter and illustrator. Her art is inspired by realism and surrealism and she has since used her techniques for her own pet portraits business, D.W. Artistry. Denise instructs classes Art Beat, Workshops, Pet Portraits and Fine Art session classes in drawing and painting. You will also find Denise enthusiastically managing Open Studio or leading private events.
Outside of art, she is an avid writer and film enthusiast, some of her favorite films being Kiki's Delivery Service, The Danish Girl, and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
Denise offers private lessons in drawing, painting and drawing for anime and manga.
Randy Haldeman - Instructor
Randy Haldeman was born and raised in Lancaster. Growing up in the wild, cornfield jungles of rural Lancaster county, Randy relied heavily upon his imagination and creativity to explore the world around him. It was then that Randy discovered his love of drawing and storytelling. Throughout the years he found endless inspiration in comics, music, video games, cartoons, and books; all feeding his desire to create stories.
Randy graduated from the Pennsylvania College of Art & Design in 2012, receiving his BFA in Illustration. He focuses mainly on creating comics and book cover illustrations. Working out of his downtown Lancaster apartment, Randy spends his time drawing, playing video games, reading comics, and doing exciting life stuff with his wife and two cats.
Randy offers private lessons in drawing, watercolor painting, ink drawing, creating comics and webcomics, concept art, and digital painting (Photoshop, Clip Studio Paint, Procreate). View a sample of Randy's work.
